Jazz Showcase, Chicago, November 1977.

Another thanks to Paul W. for his lossless LP rip!

Saturn LP 771, The Soul Vibrations of Man, was released on the Chicago label in 1977, as was its companion volume, Saturn LP 772, Taking a Chance on Chances.
There are no track titles on The Soul Vibrations of Man, only titles for Side A and Side B.  Track titles were provided by rlc, ct, and Ahmed Abdullah.  Abdullah suggests either Storyville, NYC, in late October 1977, or the Jazz Showcase, November 1977; the personnel (there are no trombonists and no sign of Emmett McDonald's bass horn) and the muddy recording quality suggest a different origin from the Storyville material.

Back Scans - jpg

I remembered that the LP back cover is reproduced in Freedom Rhythm & Sound  so I've put together some scans for you.  My scanner will not stitch together record sleeve sized pictures very well so I did my best to include all the details.

  1. thank you for the cover scans! including those just makes it a so much more 'complete' package, if you will - you can gaze at the covers, while listening to the music, and be in wonder about it all.

    I-)
