Out Beyond the Kingdom Of
(Discipline 99)
Saturn 61674
Many thanks to Paul W. for this rare Saturn LP rip.
Saturn LP 61674, Out Beyond The Kingdom Of, was released on the Philadelphia label in 1974. Some copies are titled Discipline 99.
(Issues from 1974 or later, with dates for serial numbers, are from the Philadelphia Saturn label, run out of the house on Morton Street, not Alton Abraham's Chicago operation -- rlc)
At least three different Saturn labels were used on Out Beyond The Kingdom Of. there is a purplish Chicago Saturn label with a 1974 copyright date; these were sold in a generic "Acropolis" cover (Peter Roberts). There is a photocopied Chicago label (black on white) with typed-in titles; on this label, "Outer Space Employment Agency" has been truncated to "Outer Space Em." These recycled Chicago labels are probably of Philadelphia origin! In later years the prevailing label was a yellow Philadelphia with titles typed in a script typeface ...
Sun Ra (p, org, Mini-Moog, syn, recitation); Akh Tal Ebah (tp, flg, mell, voc); Lamont McClamb (Kwame Hadi) (tp, perc); Marshall Allen (as, fl, picc, ob, perc); Danny Davis (as, fl, acl, perc); John Gilmore (ts, perc, voc); Danny Ray Thompson (bars, fl, libf, perc); Pat Patrick (bars, eb); James Jacson (bsn, Inf-d, voc); Ronnie Boykins (b); Clifford Jarvis (d); unidentified (d); June Tyson (voc, dance). ReplyDeleteThank you! I was so broken-hearted when PTUW was unavailable!

Thank you for sharing these fantastic Sun Ra albums. I think "Discipline 99" is THE track here.. I hope you go on with this project and cover all rare Saturns! Any chance of you posting "Taking A Chance On Chances"?! (the "Chances" in the title has also been reported as ChanceY, a reference to Vincent Chancey). I have only heard a very poor-sounding mp3 rip.
ReplyDeleteThank you again.
Ra bless you!
ReplyDeleteYou are doing humanity (and the cosmos) a great service here. Thank you for this! Always wanted to hear Sunny tear things up at my old alma mater.
ReplyDeletethanks. i ran a Sun Ra blog called intergalacticresearch.googlepages.com
ReplyDeletei posted a number of early ra albums before incessant link deletions kept me from finishing.
this is great though. lots of better sounding LP rips. superb.
Yes, Welcome!
ReplyDeleteI remember intergalacticresearch very well!
Your site was one of the first places I visited approx. 3 years ago when I discovered that enthusiasts shared music online (Latecomer I know, it was a revelation to me).
As a matter of fact, I downloaded 2 parts of a 4 part BBC Documentary but was never able to find the remaining pieces. I'd love it if you would share them here.
Thanks for visiting and of course, you're welcome here anytime!
Wonderful. As I expect every post here to be. :-). No pressure! Cheers CZ
ReplyDeleteAh you don't know how good it feels to get my voice back. (Cookie problem who knew?)
ReplyDeleteYou have a most wonderful blog & after a tour I am eager to give this a listen. We both share relative newcomer status to music blogs & the same fascination with Sun Ra. I was first introduced to this sharing of music & to Sun Ra when I literally stumbled upon a certain intelligence agency masquerading as a music blog. I remember your posts from back then & I am happy to see you are now a shining star yourself in blogland. God bless you sir & your efforts are most appreciated.
Hey Moremiles!
ReplyDeleteThe first music sharing blog I stumbled on was Pathway to Unknown Worlds. I couldn't believe it! I had had the bright idea to search the web for Sun Ra info because the few CDs & LP I had were just not enough anymore. I'd just finished reading Space Is The Place and wanted to hear some of the albums mentioned there but had no idea where to start. All of the sudden, I was in a whole new world of like-minded music lovers offering me a chance to hear the music that they loved so much. It was like being in high school again trading tapes with friends! The old Call It Anything (HOLY CRAP! So inspiring...) and a couple of others were next and I was totally hooked.
I quickly started leaving comments when I'd download something, (usually just a quick thanks) and before I knew it, I was being invited to contribute.
I started this blog (my first and so far, only) when Bumkuncha (aka HerrB) at Pathways decided to shut down his blog. Not too long before, a generous Pathways reader, Paul W, appreciated a certain post and mentioned that he had an extensive Sun Ra collection. I invited him to contribute links and before I knew it, he was kindly and freely offering FLAC rips of his long OOP Saturns. What a guy! We've all benefited so from his generosity. When Pathways closed, I still had about a dozen rare Saturns that Paul W had sent me but I had not yet had a chance to post. I knew I couldn't keep them to myself so I had to create a new outlet for sharing them.
Since starting Adventure-Equation, others (such as yourself) have been equally generous and giving. Music sharing on the web has put me in touch with so many great people from all over the world...
It's a great time to be alive and this is a wonderful world in so many ways, eh?
Ah what you state is so true my friend in music. We have had very similar experiences & I also owe a huge debt to Rab & the others for my musical enlightenment. At the present time I feel much more comfortable as an occasional contributor but I have great admiration for those such as yourself that create & moderate these platforms of sharing & joy. As for for my good fortune to land on your blog...Space Is The Place, baby!
ReplyDeleteLINK DOESN'T WORK!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOoOoOo please fix it.
ReplyDeleteYes, any chance of a re-link to Mega or FF? Crossing fongers...
ReplyDeleteThere is change in the air...
all Love,
