Sun Ra Hot Dog Sauce ???

You can buy it HERE
March 8:  Too late, I guess somebody snatched it up.  You can still visit and see more pics, tho.
Doesn't it just blow your entire mind?
I know it does mine.

  1. Mind officially blown. The jar even looks a bit like Sonny! I was hoping it was still available on my grocer's shelf, but apparently not. Cool as it is, $40 with shipping is a bit much – typical for eBay I guess. The images though are priceless.

  2. I'm right there with ya, rev.b
As much as I would have liked to see that li'l jar sitting on the shelf next to me, $40 can buy some pretty nice music. I thought the jar looks like him, too! I kept searching for signs of space-garb (but no).
I have a grocer down the street that seems to have some trouble pulling out-of-date merch. I'll check their shelves. :)

  4. just found this from 2007:
    h!!p://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/figural-roly-poly-bottle-banks-sun-ra
Up for auction are two (2) fat little Roly Poly Sun-Ra Hot Dog Sauce Bottles from the 1950's. Both bottles have a flat spot so that they can stand tipped forward as well as upright. One roly poly is smiling and winking and the other has a decided frown. The bottles stand about 4 ¼ inches tall. Each has a number on the bottom. The smiling one is #5 and the frowning one is #3. They might have been part of a series of collectibles. The clear glass bottles are in EXCELLENT MINT CONDITION with no chips, cracks or damage. They are heavy glass and weigh about ½ pound each. They once held Sun-Ra Hot Dog Sauce from Sun-Ra Prod. Co. of St. Joseph, Missouri . My mother has had these stored in her pantry for years. The metal caps are original, but t is no slit for coins, but a coin slot could easily have been made with a knife. The caps have some wear and rust spots as shown in the picture, but for their age they are in good condition and easily unscrew from the bottles.

  5. Fantastic! ‘The Many Moods of Sun Ra Hot Dog Sauce Collector’s Series!’ Now I’m wondering what it was; chili?, relish?, cosmo-flavored hot sauce?

based on the ingredients (consists of mustard seed, chopped pickles and peppers, vinegar, sugar, salt, tumeric, spices, flavoring and u.s.certified color added), i would say it is close to a piccalilli: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Piccalilli.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piccalilli - american northeast variant

    Ha! Piccalilli Moon Soup anyone?

I travel to North Carolina each year and am often served chow chow - it looks a lot like the piccalilli in the picture.

  10. I have the little jar, perfect condition. My mother in law had kept old coins in it in her safety deposit box ,and I found when she passed away.
