Well, at least Sun Ra is credited as co-writer. Maybe some Ga Ga fans will work their way back through the Zombie Zombie cover of Rocket # 9 that she samples and end up here, grooving to Lanquidity?
I especially liked the reaction from the Arkestra members on FB: "Do we get to tour with Gaga?" After all, they did share a stage with Sonic Youth and just think of the reach that would bring for the Cosmos Message!
As you can imagine, I think Gaga should open for the Arkestra. Either way, it’d be a night to remember. Talk about spectacle in abundance. I could see everyone back on stage singing Space is the Place as the closer.
Nice face scorpion and areole cheesecake there Lady G. Wish she would take the Arkestra with her on the next tour, or at least funnel a bit of that hot gaga royalty money their way. She's quite the phenom, eh? It's not really my cuppa tea, but anyone who references Sun Ra is okay in my book. Good on ‘er!
Yotte . . . could this be a coincidence? You know . . . a million monkeys on a million typewriters will eventually bang out the lyrics to Space is the Place? ( Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. ) Rock on Ra!
Just some comments on comments. Sorry if I end up saying something stupid.
I hear what you’re saying Miguel and couldn’t agree more on so many levels. But there’s another way to look at it. Sun Ra never let the vulgarity of human culture or of the human condition affect what he wanted to do. In fact, he went out of his way to create an alternative direction. For his troubles, much of the jazz mainstream dismissed him as a heretic or some kind of side show oddity, all the while being unable to explain why so many of their ‘legends’ like Coltrane, Mingus and others sought his counsel and pointed to his influence. Nor could they explain why so many of the best sidemen had spent time with the Arkestra. I hope you won’t let the latest blonde pop culture pole dancer bother you. Sun Ra certainly does deserve better. That’s why we’re here.
I also have no idea how Lady Ga came upon the line. I’m told she’s pretty savvy (Really? No shit!). I guess it’s just out there in hipster culture. I don’t kid myself that there will be a sudden flood of people curious about Sun Ra, but I appreciate the reference (I guess!) and at least she apparently did give credit where it was due rather than just stealing, I mean appropriating the title.
I would like to see her dance or sing with the Arkestra too, but she better not be flashin’ her brittany or I imagine they’ll jerk her porno ass off the stage!
I used to not dislike Lady Ga Ga and considered her to maybe have some modicum of intelligence that the rest of the array of trashy female pop idols did not.... this opinion came mostly from word of mouth and that I pretty much ignored her... THIS WAS TOO MUCH TO IGNORE, THE PANTY REFERENCE IS NOTHING BUT STUPID... LADY GAGA IS STUPID ... BUT SHE MUST HAVE HIGHLY PAID HANDLERS FOR ME NOT TO KNOW THIS FOR SO LONG!!!
Yotte:
ReplyDeleteIt's OK with me, I happen to like the idea.

ReplyDeleteThis just depresses me. Sexual pastiche of Sun Ra? No thanks. The man deserved much better. I'm going to throw up somewhere nicer.
