Writer Henry Dumas and Sun Ra forged a close bond in the mid-1960s when they were residing in New York. This collaborative effort centers on commentary by Sun Ra on a number of social, political and historical issues.
Fascinating, lyrical, poetic and dramatic, the outlooks and opinions of Sun Ra remain timely and urgent. The meeting of the educator and the writer yielded an important project that allows the rays from the genius of Sun Ra to glow upon those who listen to the lectures.

Thank you Yotte. In addition to the interest in listening to this document, I will try to know a bit about Henry Dumas.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy the conversation and Dumas' story, Frédito. After reading the title 'The Metagenesis of Sunra' in the notes from the CD, I found the story in a collection of Dumas' short fiction titled "Echo Tree." I bought the book because I was curious about Dumas' writings and I have to say that I'm very glad I found it. The writings are fantastic, beautiful, and filled with mythic, magical images. It is easy to see why Ra felt Dumas to be a kindrid spirit.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the conversation, currently reading online infos on Dumas. I finally found your alphabetical post index, so I'll be able to comment more on my experiences. Some wonderful recordings I found here !
ReplyDeleteBest wishes from France Yotte

ReplyDeleteLike other commenters, I'm now very curious about Dumas' writings... anyone have any reccomendations?
Hi Mogambo,
ReplyDeleteYou noticed the Dumas story at the bottom of the post, right? I found that in a collection of Dumas' fiction that I picked up online for just a few dollars. The collection is called "Echo Tree - The Collected Short Fiction of Henry Dumas" published by Coffee House Press, 2003.
